PDC-UK is delighted to announce a second Patron Brig. Dr. Tom Ogilvie-Graham BVMAS DipLaw MRCVS FIBiol Barrister to the charity. In accepting his role as Patron Tom said "It is a great pleasure and an honour to have been asked to join Steve Leonard as a patron of PDC-UK. I have always had a strong interest in sustainable conservation and in particular with large mammals in Africa so PDC-UK under the 'umbrella' of PDC Zimbabwe very much fits with that. The challenge of conserving painted dogs in Zimbabwe puts this charity at the forefront of conservation efforts and its progress should be of great interest to all with an interest in conservation. I have an especially high regard for Peter Blinston, Managing Director of PDC Zimbabwe. The organization is really proactive, innovative, energetic and covers so much more than simply saving the dogs, vital as that is. For example, the education of local children in wildlife management and educating them about the importance of wildlife in general is ground-breaking and very commendable. The presence of the charity adjacent to Hwange National Park also serves as a crucial check on some of the more ambitious projects to industrialise the area or for authorities to neglect their responsibilities to control poaching. I also believe the PDC-UK team has a critical role to play, not least in informing people about the value of these dogs, the threat that they are under and why their loss would mean not only a very significant depletion in the overall number of a very threatened, fascinating species that truly represents the wilder part of Africa but also irreparable damage to conservation in general within Zimbabwe."
